New Year. New Beginnings. (Sorta) (Maybe)

I don’t know about you, but for me the new year isn’t really starting off with a feeling of all that is new and promising. Hard lockdowns are either in place or extended. Hospitals are getting overrun and doctors are having to make heart wrenching decisions all over the world as cases increase rapidly in all too many places. Meanwhile the vaccinations are slow going and there are simply not enough to go around for quite a while yet.

January was always going to be rough. There is no distraction from the holidays – whether that’s a good or bad thing is personal – and all there is is reality: more isolation, more shielding and a deepening lack of direct human contact, all for quite a while yet.

So yeah, 2021 ain’t no picnic quite yet, is it?

But… hope springs eternal.

Vaccines are coming and friends in care are in the middle of getting theirs already, even if most of us have a while to wait.

The end of this global tragedy is near. And isn’t the saying: it’s blackest before the dawn? I do feel that is exactly where we are at right now.

We can only get through this by simply holding on, even if we think we can’t, and remind ourselves that we are in this together, all of us, all over the world.

So stay home and stay safe, for yourself and for others. Wear a mask when you do have to go out. Keep your distance. Vote like your life depends on it (in some cases it actually does: go Georgia!). And most of all: reach out to one another. We can all use that hug right now, even if it is virtual.

Just remind yourself on occasion: oh how sweet life will be once this is all over!

Until then: together we got this – and each other!

x Sandra
